Kawa - kawa Natural Park

Kawa-kawa Natural Park, a Bicol tourist spot in which the city of Ligao should be proud of. It is a tourist and religious destination which is also known for its eco-tourism activities located in Tuburan, Ligao City. You will find Kawa kawa 2 kilometers (2km) from the heart of the city and 236 meters (236m) high. About meters below its summit is a crater resembles a huge Chinese cooking wok in which the people derived its name “KAWA”.

Once you step up to Kawa kawa Natural Park the first thing your eyes can capture was the life size statues of the 14 Stations of the Cross. You will find it very useful and heartwarming once you finish the 14 stations. You can also do some activities there like horseback-riding or enjoy the calm winds and fresh air on top of the hill which offers a breathtaking view of the city. Our Lady of the Gate Parish Church

A 17th Baroque church stand on a hill with commanding view of Mayon Volcano, and now one of the province and country’s historical treasure recognized by the Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

About the church: The Our Lady of the Gate Parish Church contains archeological relics of saints and rare religious seals engraved on volcanic rocks throughout its entire façade including the belfry. It is also said that the relics were all that was left after the bombing of American planes during the World War II in 1945.

History: According to the tale Daraga church was built by young maidens or Daraga. But in history it was built in 1773 by Franciscan missionaries at the time when Daraga was just a part of Cagasawa. The Architecture of Daraga was said to be Baroque but many say’s it’s a mixture of Mexican baroque and renaissance gothic. The church’s facade also carries the coat of arms of the Franciscan Order, images of Franciscan saints, and of course, an image of Our Lady of the Gate.

So we Bicolano’s should be proud that we have this great landmark that will surely mark in the history of Bicol Region in the next –next generation.

Lignon Hill

Ligñon hill as a famous and best tourist destination here in Albay, it stands 156 meter or 511 feet tall. This is one of the best Bicol hot spots that we Bicolanos should be proud of. The best time to go up hill is at early in the morning where you can witness the sunrise and the naked beauty of Mount Mayon while the air is cool. Entrance is free and it was good for joggers and fitness buffs, you will experience a great workout there with your families and friends. Better to experience than just looking at the photos!

Hoyop – Hoyopan Cave

One of the well known beautiful spot in Bicol region and tourist attraction is the hoyop –hoyopan cave of Cotmon , Camalig, Albay ( 11.8 km from the town proper ). One of the three caves in Camalig Albay, hoyop – hoypan is the most popular and accessible. The word hoyop – hoyopan was derived from bicolano word “hoyop” or its eternal whispering breeze. It is a three storey cave and if you will try to explore the entire cave you will spend 11 hours according to the tourist guide. It is said that it was develop during Marcos regime, the said cave has its disco place which was built in honor to the First Lady Imelda Marcos.

Bicol Region as hospitable region in the Philippines has its ancient culture that really influences our present culture and beliefs. The land of Bicol was called “IBALON”, some says that it was after the name of DATU GAT ABAAL, who ruled territories from his seat at Sawangan on the Mount of Makabo river which is now the Legazpi City. Another fact is that IBALON means “hospitable people who give visitors gift to bring home”, this was proven by the early Spanish missionaries and describe Bicol as the friendliest race in the Philippines, religious and gently temperate as Bicolanos fiercely resisted the first attempt to subdue them in 1573 and refused to surrender unless forced by arms.
