Bicol Region as hospitable region in the Philippines has its ancient culture that really influences our present culture and beliefs. The land of Bicol was called
“IBALON”, some says that it was after the name of
DATU GAT ABAAL, who ruled territories from his seat at Sawangan on the Mount of Makabo river which is now the Legazpi City. Another fact is that IBALON means “
hospitable people who give visitors gift to bring home”, this was proven by the early Spanish missionaries and describe Bicol as the friendliest race in the Philippines, religious and gently temperate as Bicolanos fiercely resisted the first attempt to subdue them in 1573 and refused to surrender unless forced by arms.
